5 Star experience at the Pullman & Mercure King George Square, Brisbane

Updated: Nov 6, 2022

In October 2022 I stayed at the beautiful Pullman & Mercure King George Square hotel in Brisbane with my lovely Mum. It is a five star hotel in the CBD of Brisbane.

It is a combined hotel and we were booked into a Mercure Superior Guest Room and stayed on Level 7. There were three lifts to use so we never had to wait very long to get one.

In our room there were 2 double beds and it was a very nice room overlooking the view of Brisbane City Hall and the lovely Clock Tower.

There were lovely prints on the walls that were pictures of city buildings and there were great photos of the Clock Tower.

We also had a desk and a chair in our room and there was a cupboard for our clothes, a safe and fridge in our room too.

I liked the bathroom because it had a shower and it also had a very big window which made the bathroom very light and bright.

The beds were very lovely to sleep on because they were so comfortable and had very soft doonas and pillows.

During the daytime we could hear the bells ringing from the Clock Tower over the road because they rang every 15 minutes but at night time the bells stopped so I could go to sleep because the room was very quiet all night. The lights on the Clock Tower at night looked awesome.

The aircon worked very well in the room and the wifi was good. There was a very big TV and I liked it because I could find the information about the hotel and the restaurants and the pool on the TV. The rooms were very clean and they had nice lamps you could use if you didn't want the very bright lights on. The curtains were good too and kept the room nice and dark in the morning so we didn't wake up too early.

We used our keycard to make the lift work, get into our room and turn on the power in the room and once mum showed me how to do it I found it easy to use.

There was an awesome Rooftop pool at the Pullman & Mercure King George Square on floor 16 which had lovely views of the city and a very nice sun deck to have a rest. The weather was a bit cold when we were there so we didn't swim but I liked going up there to take photos and have a look.

There was also a rooftop bar next to the pool called the Sixteen Antlers Rooftop Bar which is open from Tuesday to Saturday.

While we stayed at the hotel we ate lunch and breakfast and dinner at the Gold Finch Cafe and Restaurant and the food was very nice. Mum and I really liked it a lot. The cafe served meals and coffees and cakes.

The Cafe had nice tables and chairs and lovely plants and pictures on the wall.

In the restaurant there were lots of big widows so it was very light and we could watch the people in the city walking by.

We had some very yummy food there including Pork Belly and Pommes frites, which are chips, and some Lebanese Spiced Chicken Skewers.

In the mornings we had the buffet Breakfast and we had bacon and some eggs and fruit and juices and coffees and tea. It was so great and so delicious.

The staff were very friendly and helpful when we checked in, although it was very busy and we had to wait about 15 minutes for our turn. There were a lot of chairs in the lobby so I sat down until it was our turn. On the day we left they were very helpful and looked after our suitcases after we checked out until we wanted them a few hours later. The man who took them was very nice and had a good talk to us.

The Pullman & Mercure King George Square is very close to Roma Street station, the Brisbane City Hall and Brisbane Museum, Roma St Parklands and the Queen Street Mall where we went shopping a few times.

We walked to all of those places and it was flat and easy to walk. We got a taxi over to Southbank and it only cost $8 because it was close too.

I really liked staying at the Pullman & Mercure King George Square and I would love to stay there again one day because the staff were nice and the rooms were fantastic. It was very clean and it was very comfortable. The location is great and I really enjoyed being able to walk to so many things nearby and then go back to the room for a rest.

If you are looking for a very nice hotel in the centre of Brisbane I think you would really love staying there as well.

Tips from my travelling companion -

The Pullman & Mercure King George Square was an excellent place to stay. We had arrived in Brisbane by train at the Roma Street Station so it was very convenient to find, being located only a 10 minute walk from there. We really loved the room we had, which was booked through the Mercure website. The beds were exceptionally comfortable and the bathroom was well appointed. We both loved the view of The Clock Tower at Brisbane City Hall and it was lovely to hear the bells ringing at 15 minute intervals throughout the day. We even booked ourselves in to do the Clock Tower tour, which was both interesting and informative. We were glad the bells stopped at night though as I think they would have disturbed our sleep.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and we loved our meals, and the service, at The Goldfinch restaurant. Another big bonus was the location in being so close to the Queen St Mall, and the Roma St Parklands, both of which we visited and really enjoyed.

The information provided in room on the TV screen was great for Flynn as he could find out more about the hotel facilities in an easy way and he liked the lighting in both the rooms and bathroom as there was enough natural light to keep it bright and at night there were lamps to have a softer light to help to wind down.

Check in and check out did take quite a long time as the staff on the front desk were busy and the queue of people waiting was quite long, but there were a lot of comfortable couches/chairs and areas for Flynn to sit and chill whilst I waited. It might be beneficial if there could be a system to take a number so I could have sat with Flynn while waiting, or the chance to ask for a check in upgrade or similar, so that the wait time could be lessened.

Overall though we rate the Pullman & Mercure King George Square very highly and would love to return as guests again sometime.
