Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort - an accessible, relaxing place to stay right in the heart of Cairns!

Updated: Apr 3

I recently stayed at the Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort and I had a fantastic time!

My parents and my sister stayed with me and they loved it too. The Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort is right in the centre of Cairns and is close to the Esplanade, lots of restaurants and shops. It is also right next door to the Cairns Aquarium. CPAC, which is the Cairns Performing Arts Centre and the Cairns Art Gallery and the Cairns Museum are all really close to walk to as well.

A very nice lady named Katherine was working at the Front desk and helped me to check in. She was very friendly and helpful and explained everything to me. She was very patient and didn't rush me.

She gave me a map of the hotel so I could see where everything was. I really like looking at maps so that was good.

The map showed where the different buildings were and the pool and restaurants. It also showed which paths were wheelchair accessible and Katherine also circled where we were and where our room was so we knew where to go.

Katherine gave me they keys to our room and told us we could park our car in the underground carpark. She also gave us some tokens for the pool towels and some information about what was on at the hotel.

We stayed on the 6th floor in one of the Family Suites and our room was very beautiful and very big. We had a great view of the pool from our very lovely balcony and there were nice lifts to use right near our room. We had a big king size bed and a sofa bed and rollaway bed because there were four of us staying in our room. There was also a little kitchen area in our room with a table and chairs too and there was a special welcome card for me on the table and some lovely welcome gifts from the General Manager.

The Bathroom was very nice and had a big shower and a very big spa bath. It was nice and light which is good because I don't like dark bathrooms. It was also very clean and smelled nice and there were plenty of very soft towels.

I liked the bath products a lot. The entrance to the shower was flat without a step so it was easy to go in and out.

I also really liked the robes that were in the cupboard because they were so soft and comfortable.

The view from the balcony was awesome! We could see the beautiful pool and the ocean and lots of lovely hotels and apartments that were around us. I really loved sitting on the balcony looking at the view and so did my mum and dad.

There were lots of lovely places to sit around the pool and you could order drinks and food. There are also two nice bars to go to. One is near the reception and looks out over the pool and one is next to the pool and has a swim up bar and tables and chairs next to the pool as well.

The staff were so lovely and helpful to me when I was ordering my dinner and drink.

We ate inside at the Moku restaurant and I had rump steak with citrus slaw and chips and a pineapple juice and it tasted really delicious.

You can use your phone to order food and drinks from the QR code if you want. They call this contactless ordering and it is a very accessible way to order your dinner or snacks without having to go to the bar to talk to anyone or wait to be served.

You can also order room service by scanning the QR code if you want to eat in your room.

One of the things I liked the most about staying at the Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort was the wonderful buffet breakfast. There was a lovely lady called Deb who showed us where we could sit and told us about all of the delicious food we could choose from. Deb was very kind and friendly and said she was so happy I was staying.

There were lots of different tables to choose from inside and even an outside area to sit at if you wanted to. It was very hot when we stayed so we sat inside in the air-conditioning.

There was fruit and cereal, breads and cakes and pancakes and muffins, bacon and eggs and sausages, as well as tomatoes and mushrooms and it was very yummy. They had lots of gluten free options and were lots of nice juices and tea and coffee and different sorts of milks. We ate a lot of food and really enjoyed it. It was easy to serve the food and there was plenty of space to move around without bumping into things or people.

I really loved sitting by the Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort pool relaxing on the sun lounges and reading my book. The view was very awesome. They have beanbags to sit in as well and lots of tables and chairs. There were also a lot of umbrellas to sit under and shady areas so you could relax without being too hot or getting sunburnt.

There is a great sandy beach at one end of the pool and it is really nice. When we used to stay at Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort when I was a little boy I used to love playing in the sand and digging.

The swim up bar is so great too and you can sit on the stools in the water and order a nice drink.

I had a frozen mango drink which looked very nice and tasted wonderful.

They run great activities for VIK's (Very important kids) at the Novotel Oasis Resort. They have a list of fun activities that happen every Saturday and Sunday including games and races in the pool with lots of fun equipment. We saw Deb helping lots of kids to have fun.

They also have a big screen where they show kids movies on Saturdays nights for free and give out free popcorn. There are nice beanbags and chairs to sit on and parents can relax and eat dinner at the tables nearby while kids watch the movie.

The Novotel Oasis pool looked very pretty at nighttime with all of the very lovely lights on. It is fun to have a swim in dark.

There are lots of places to take very nice selfies around the pool and I really liked having my photo taken with the cool sign that says 'Tropic like it's hot'.

The reception area has a huge couch to sit on and it was very comfortable.

There are also lots of other lovely places to sit and relax around the hotel.

I really enjoyed staying at the Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort in Cairns because the rooms are lovely and the pool is great. The staff were very helpful and nice to me and I liked meeting them all. It is close to the Esplanade and there are lots of things to do near there. The food was great and everything was very clean and nice. The rooms were nice and quiet at night and I slept very well in the comfortable beds. I also liked the Calm X App they have to help you relax. I didn't use the Fitness Centre but it looked really great.

I would love to stay there again and recommend it to others as a great place to stay!

Tips from my travelling companion -

If you're looking for a tropical, modern and relaxing place to stay in Cairns which is central and a great base to explore the beautiful city and surrounds, or even just to get away and do nothing at all, then look no further than the Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort!

The staff are extremely patient, friendly and obliging and were great at making Flynn feel welcome and at ease during their interactions with him. The rooms were spacious and clean and the views were spectacular. The pool is one of our favourites in Cairns, with a sandy beach entry and a swim up bar as highlights. There is also a handrail to hold onto as you enter the pool via the steps if you are unsteady on your feet. The kids activities keep the little ones entertained and there are ample sunlounges, chairs, tables and beanbags around the pool, so nobody misses out on the somewhere relaxing to sit. The restaurants and bars are numerous and the food we had was fresh, delicious and well-priced. The rooms were soundproof, and the beds were extremely comfortable and inviting so it was easy to get a good night's sleep. The were various options of lighting in the room which is positive in terms of helping to create a positive sensory environment.

As the Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort is part of the Accor chain of hotels, they have a loyalty programme called ALL - Accor Live Limitless which you can join. The programme gives great discounts and benefits, such as member's rates on rooms, welcome drinks, room upgrades, priority check-ins and late check-outs as well as discounts on food and drink at certain restaurants. We have found it to be of great benefit to us personally. There are different status or tier levels which you can investigate on the All - Accor Live Limitless website and there are many other hotels in the Accor group such as Mantra, Pullman, Ibis, Peppers, Sebel and Sofitel to name just a few.

The priority check in at the dedicated member's reception desk was certainly beneficial for Flynn as it meant the wait time was minimal and there was less time standing in queues, which in our experience at other hotels can easily run to 10 to 15 minutes or more if the hotel is busy and can cause stress and anxiety.

The Calm App was another great initiative that helps make the stay a relaxing one. For those who find staying away from home quite stressful or overstimulating this is a great way to help restore peace and balance with meditation and calm sleep stories to access.

We were guests during this visit but this in no way has swayed our review and we would recommend the Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort to others without hesitation as a place that is relaxing, inclusive and accessible to those with hidden disabilities.
